Growing up with a single mother and three siblings, Jason Arnold did not have a financially privileged youth. He now uses his Toledo business, Arnold's Home Improvement, to give back to those in similar situations. “I have families that have called me in need sometimes: ‘Hey, I've got a leak in the roof; we don't have the money to fix it.' I'll send someone out to fix it at no cost,” he said. But Jason's giving back doesn't stop there. Actually, it's quite regular in terms of occurrence. And he manages to grow his business in the meantime.
Jason is most known for the Garcia Project, which he founded in 2010 as president of the Professional Remodelers Organization (PRO). His neighbors, the Garcia family, included pre-teen triplets, two of whom had cerebral palsy and second-floor bedrooms. Their father regularly had to lift them from their wheelchairs and carry them up and down the stairs. The Garcia Project changed that. It added a 24 by 25-foot home addition, providing the children with handicap-accessible first-floor bedrooms, a bathroom and a therapy room.
Jason also modifies homes to become more handicap-accessible through his business. Sometimes this involves minor changes, like installing step-in showers in seniors' bathrooms. Other times, he's hired to completely modify a home. Most recently, he did so for a woman who lost her leg and loved her community so much that she wanted to stay.
Arnold's Home Improvement provides a myriad of other commercial and residential services, including improvement work and installations with roofing, siding, windows, insulation, sky lights, gutters, kitchens, baths, garages and more. “We do just about anything,” Jason said.
